Pokemon Breeding Complete Guide

Breeding is the Pokemon system that lets you create perfect baby Pokemon. It\'s how competitive players get six-IV, right-nature, right-ability Pokemon for tournament play. Learning it unlocks the top tier of the game.

The Basics

Leave a male and female Pokemon of the same Egg Group at the Daycare (or Nursery in newer games). They will produce an Egg that hatches into the female\'s base form. Opposite gender + same egg group = baby.

IV Inheritance

By default, a baby inherits 3 random IVs from its parents. Give one parent a Destiny Knot, and the baby inherits 5 IVs instead. Use the Destiny Knot with two perfect IV parents and you can reliably breed 5-6IV offspring in about 20-40 eggs.

Egg Moves

Some Pokemon can only learn certain moves through breeding. These are called Egg Moves. For example, Togepi gets Nasty Plot as an Egg Move from Togetic parents. Egg Moves pass from father to baby in most generations, though Gen 6+ allows mother inheritance too.

Nature Inheritance

Give a parent an Everstone to force the baby to inherit that parent\'s Nature. Combined with Destiny Knot, you can breed a perfect-nature, 5-6IV Pokemon in a few hours.

Hidden Ability Breeding

Only females with Hidden Abilities can pass them down (60% chance per egg). A Ditto with HA can pass it to any species in Gen 8+. Always breed with the HA parent as the female, not the male.
