Ranked Battles Strategy Guide

Ranked battles are where dedicated players prove themselves. Your ELO rating rises and falls with every match, so every decision matters. Here is the fundamental framework for climbing.

Build Your Core Team First

Don\'t chase the latest flavour-of-the-week Pokemon. Build a team of six that you know inside out. Knowing your team\'s exact damage outputs, speed tiers, and switch points is more valuable than using the "best" six Pokemon. Consistency wins ELO.

The Lead Matters

Your first Pokemon sets the tone for the entire match. Leads should either be a safe pivot (like Landorus) or a Pokemon that can do major work turn one (like a Choice Scarf attacker). Avoid leads that lose momentum on switch.

Understanding Matchups

Every team matchup has a natural winner. If your opponent has three Fire resists and you have two Fire sweepers, you\'re already behind. Recognise bad matchups early and play around them — sometimes playing for a draw is better than overcommitting to a losing position.

Stay Patient on the Ladder

You will go on win streaks and losing streaks. The biggest mistake new ranked players make is tilt — playing angry after a loss. Take a break after three consecutive losses. Come back fresh. The ladder will still be there tomorrow.

Record and Review

The best ranked players rewatch their matches. You\'ll spot mistakes you didn\'t notice in the moment — a bad switch, a misprediction, a missed KO. Every replay is free learning.
